III. Missionary communities at the service of the world

Introduction

"" He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives and to the blind new sight, to set the downtrodden free, to proclaim the Lord's year of favour." (Lk.4:18-19).

The Church is the sign of Salvation for all in Jesus Christ. The Church is at the service of the world; it is the bearer of Christ's liberating Message. Implanted in the history of the world, participating at its very heart, the Church must be present to women and men, here and elsewhere, and be attentive to the concrete situations of individuals and groups.

As Christians, we must establish bonds between the Gospel and the struggle for justice. This struggle to counteract injustice, impoverishment, social inequalities and exclusion is a proper setting for evangelization. To take the side of the poor, the oppressed and the excluded is to help them to become agents of their own liberation. The recommendations accepted by the Synodal Assembly identify the principal areas of involvement for believers. They open a vast field for the transformation of the world and the creation of a more just and more human society.
